Who Has The Best Gumbo In Destin?
Be sure to head to The Destin History and Fishing Museum’s Annual Gumbo Contest and Silent Auction on Saturday, January 25 at the Destin Community Center. The contest will feature area individuals and local restaurants to determine who has the best gumbo in Destin. The event includes live music by local favorites Dread Clampitt and a silent auction of more than 50 items.
The public is welcome to come and sample all of the entries and cast their votes for the annual People’s Choice Award.
Advanced tickets are available at the Museum, or can be purchased at the door, and museum officials are still accepting both gumbo entries and silent auction items.
The Destin History and Fishing Museum chronicles the growth of Destin from a “sleepy little fishing village” to the world-class resort community it is today.
This family-friendly museum has been rated by TripAdvisor as one of the best attractions in Destin, and exhibits include a large collection of antique rods and reels, award-winning displays of indigenous Destin sea and marine life, and the oldest seine fishing boat still in existence, the Primrose.
While adults may enjoy looking at the old photos of Destin’s founding families, kids can participate in a hands-on scavenger hunt, which gets them up close to the exhibits. The Destin History and Fishing Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for seniors and military, $3.00 for children, and free for kids under 6.
