Wasted Vacation Days
There’s no shortage of vacation days; and that’s not just because employers are offering more of them. It’s because we are wasting them. Did you hear that, y’all? WE’RE WASTING VACATION DAYS.
It seems like a cardinal sin to forgo time lounging by the beach or skiing down a mountain in favor of work. What’s even worse is that the “used” vacation days are spent checking emails. That’s right! Long gone are the days where you could completely unwind and unplug. As people become more tied to their phones, the harder it is to get away.
If the thought alone isn’t alarming enough, the research is. Project: Time Off, a coalition committed to changing the thinking and behavior of Americans about their vacation time, found that 662 million vacation days were left on the table in 2016, four million more than 2015. The bright side is that employers are recognizing the importance of time off. The problem is employees still aren’t taking advantage of it.
We get it though. There’s stress that comes along with taking a vacation. You worry things won’t be as you left them, or that someone will better will come along. Someone who doesn’t take vacation days. (We’re talking about the work martyring millennials who willing forfeit time off out of fear.)
And while the struggle is real, the truth is you have earned those vacation days. You DESERVE a week (or two) at the beach. That time is yours, TAKE IT (and spend it in one of our luxury vacation home rentals in Destin)!
