Destin Beaches Oil Spill Update 6/21

Allyssa Smith Share

Today is June 21st…it is another beautiful, sunny day. We have had perfect weather for at least 3 weeks now. We had a storm late last night that cooled things off just a little bit. The water is clear, although the storm stirred up the June grass. There are a lot of people on

In an effort to respond quickly, Walton County quickly coordinated clean up efforts and began taking preventative action. Silt fence and geo-tubes are being employed in a small section of beach in

This video was taken from Face the Nation on CBS 6/13. The first two interviews were with the Governors of Alabama and Mississippi. Two minutes later Governor Crist comes on live from the beach in Santa Rosa Beach. In the middle of his interview they show their stock video from a Louisiana beach. BP Boosts Collection from Oil Spill Site

Allyssa Smith Share

HOUSTON—BP PLC said Tuesday that it collected 14,800 barrels on Monday from a leaking deepwater well in the Gulf of Mexico, a sharp increase from the previous day’s rate and putting the company close to the limit of how much oil it can process in the near term. U.S. Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen, who is overseeing the federal response to the spill, said a second ship should arrive in two to three days and should add 5,000 to 10,000 barrels of additional processing capacity.
