South Walton is home to the beautiful scenic beach highway, 30A, which has a multitude of charming neighborhoods. This area is a popular vacation destination and it's not hard to see why. However, here are a few facts you may not have known about South Walton.

1. 30A is a scenic highway that stretches 28.5 miles along the Emerald Coast.

30A was actually the first county road to be designated as an official scenic highway by the state of Florida. While it stretches just under thirty miles, the area has captured the hearts of so many travelers, making it a top vacation destination in the state.

2. 30A is made up of 16 distinct beach communities.

30A stretches from Dune Allen Beach to Inlet Beach and there are tons of unique beach neighborhoods in between. Each neighborhood has its own individual personality and architectural style, which makes 30A such a special place. Whether you're looking for a traditional southern-style vacation home or something chic and modern, 30A has just what you're searching for.

3. The white quartz that migrated down from the Appalachian Mountains makes the sand white and the water jewel-toned.

Many people ask why the water on the Emerald Coast is such a beautiful shade of greenish blue and why the sand is so sugary white. Strangely enough, the sand on our beaches actually migrated down from the Appalachian Mountains thousands of years ago and ended up on our coast.

4.  There are more than 60 beach accesses in South Walton.

In 30A, everything seems to revolve around nature, so it's no surprise that there are more than 60 beach accesses in South Walton. Additionally, eight of which are regional beach accesses with public parking and restrooms.

5. Approximately 40% of the county's 56,000 acres are actually owned by the state of Florida.

While there are plenty of restaurants, shops, homes, and attractions in South Walton, 40% of the county is actually protected from further development. Essentially, if you love spending time out in nature, 30A is the place to go.

6. The Truman Show was filmed in Seaside, FL.

If you're a Jim Carrey fan, you probably remember the 1997 Blockbuster hit, The Truman Show. The directors of the movie wanted a picture-perfect town. The pastel-colored cottages and white picket fences made Seaside, FL the perfect filming location for the movie. Furthermore, you can actually visit a lot of the filming locations around town, including Truman's home.

7. There are more than 200 miles of trails within South Walton for hikers and bikers.

Whether you're a fan of the beach or a fan of the forest, you'll find yourself right at home in South Walton. The county has over 200 miles of trails for hikers and bikers alike. 30A is the perfect place to go if you want to relax and enjoy nature. Additionally, the Emerald Coast is even home to rare coastal dune lakes, which only exist in a few other places on earth like Madagascar and New Zealand.
