The month of September is a special time for the city of Destin. After months of summer excitement, our booming vacation paradise starts to settle down and begins to resemble the sleepy little fishing village it once was. The traffic lightens up, the weather cools down, and the crowds grow smaller. At this time of year, Destin is a true retreat. Visitors who choose Destin as their early Fall vacation destination have chosen wisely. Even though things are slowing down, visitors and locals can still find many Destin events to attend. Here are a few events to add to your schedule this September:

Nighttime Educational Beach Walks

Every Monday and Thursday from May to October, email ECTurtleWatch@gmail.com for specific locations and times.

These nighttime beach walks are perfect for anyone with curiosities about Destin’s wildlife, especially sea turtles. During the beach walk,participants learn about sea turtles, their nesting habits, and other wildlife.This educational event is free, but reservations are required. Participants must be six years old or older.

Red, White & Blue Celebration

Thursday, September 1

Harbor Walk Village of Destin will be hosting its last Red,White & Blue Celebration of the summer on September 1. Harbor Walk has been putting on grand firework displays every Thursday since the beginning of the summer. Come out for a presentation of the colors by the Guard, an air show, live music, and the grand firework finale!

Baytowne Art Walk,Labor Day Weekend

Friday, September 2 – Sunday, September 4

All along the cobblestone streets of Baytowne Wharf there will be live music, local art displays, and local vendors displaying their craftsmanship.There will even be a live painting competition. Admission is free at this public event, running from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. through the weekend.

HarborWalk Village’s Labor Day Celebration

Saturday, September 3 – Sunday, September 4

There will be live music from The Sauce Boss (Saturday) and The Bayou Saints (Sunday) at Harborwalk Village all summer long! Each musical performance has a unique style that is sure to entertain! Fireworks will light up the sky at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Eggs on the Beach BBQ Competition

Saturday, September 24

A cooking competition, tastings, kids activities and live music will entertain guests of every age at the Annual Eggs on the Beach BBQ Competition, hosted at the Seascape Resort in Miramar Beach from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets are required and can be purchased in advance or the day of the event.

Annual Destin Seafood Festival

Tuesday, September 30 – Friday, October 2

The 38th Annual Destin Seafood Festival is a highly anticipated event that brings chefs and visitors from all over the U.S. Destin is known for its phenomenal seafood, and this is your chance to get a taste of the best! Admission is free, but public donations are accepted. There will be fresh local seafood, live music, arts, a raffle, and more!
